Grommets or notched grommets?
To begin with, what determines the choice for serrated grommets? The use of notched grommets, known as high performance grommets, is recommended when high wind loads are involved. High calculation values are achieved with toothed grommets, so that the roof can better withstand high wind loads. The Guardian toothed grommet-screw combinations are suitable for use on any common substrate. With the exception of the combinations for concrete, all grommet-screw combinations can be processed in the Hipertool.
If the wind load is low, non-toothed or 'standard' grommets in combination with a screw are sufficient. Guardian specialists will advise you on this and provide you with a specific wind load calculation.
Low ergonomic load
Back to processing with a machine. In contrast to manual processing of grommets and screw combinations, machine processing does not require you to bend or kneel. The roofer operating the machine can stand upright, depending on his height. Therefore, the strain on the back and upper legs is much lower and, when used correctly, the risk of back injuries is practically non-existent. The machine hardly needs any force to move either, as its wheels make it easy to push forward. All this strongly reduces the chance of absence due to physical problems.
Labour savings
In addition to reducing the risk of failure due to physical strain, working with a processing machine also has an impact on labour. How? We can be brief about that: with a processing machine, work can be done faster. On large roofs, this results in considerable savings, which is a good thing in times of personnel shortages.
